The Challenge A Renovation Race Against Time
Happening Hair & Nail Spa Interior Design, The project began with a clear intention from the owner: “To elevate the client experience… where beauty walks hand-in-hand with true relaxation.”
This new branch of Happening Hair & Nail Spa was never meant to be just another salon. It had to become a sanctuary, a place where clients could truly switch off from the city’s rhythm.
Located at Unit 111 in Town Hall Sukhumvit 49, the site came with two major constraints: a compact 135 sq.m. floor area and an ambitious 60-day timeline for both design and construction.
The challenge extended far beyond aesthetics. It required combining a Hair Salon, Nail Spa, Shampoo Zone, and Private Rooms into a seamless spatial flow balancing functional efficiency with the brand’s warm and calming character.

Light as the Primary Material
During the first site inspection, one element stood out immediately: natural light. A full-height glass façade flooded the space with daylight, creating a sense of openness rarely found in commercial units.
This led us to a guiding question: If light can influence emotion, how can we design an experience that guides clients from the busy street into a state of calm?
In this project, light is not merely illumination. It acts as the emotional conductor, shaping the atmosphere and setting the tone for the entire client journey.
Concept ‘Luminous Flow’
“Luminous Flow” became the conceptual backbone of the project, a spatial narrative where light, form, and material gently transition clients through shifting moods.
At the reception, natural light fills the entrance hall, complemented by a large Himalayan Salt Stone feature that emits a soft pink-orange glow. This warm, welcoming gesture helps guests ease into the space before their service even begins.
Moving into the Hair Zone, the lighting becomes more controlled yet remains comfortable. Curved ceilings and indirect lighting provide the precision required for hair services without the harshness of direct glare. The atmosphere stays lively, relaxed, and social—true to the spirit of Happening.
Deeper inside, the ambience gradually warms. In the Nail Spa area, the lighting is reminiscent of the golden hour, offering a quieter, more intimate environment designed for deep relaxation.
On the mezzanine, the Private Rooms offer the most secluded experience. A double-wall construction ensures acoustic isolation, allowing clients to disconnect completely. The design remains minimal and grounded—an intentional contrast to the activity below—creating a setting where clients can truly be with themselves.
Spatial Planning — Letting a Small Space ‘Breathe’
Designing multiple functions within a 135 sq.m. footprint demanded precise planning. A Figure-8 circulation layout ensures smooth movement without bottlenecks for both clients and staff.
The Hair, Nail, and Spa zones are visually connected but functionally distinct. The Shampoo Zone sits in the quietest corner, with softened lighting to heighten relaxation. Meanwhile, the mezzanine structure is kept visually light so it doesn’t overwhelm the ground floor.
Every square meter was guided by a single design criterion:
“ Does this make the client feel more relaxed? ”

The Result
Since opening, we’ve observed a subtle but meaningful behavior: clients often pause for a moment upon entering, taking a slow breath before their service begins.
This simple gesture is the strongest validation that the atmosphere works.
Happening Hair & Nail Spa now stands as a thoughtful blend of function and feeling, a premium yet approachable retreat in the heart of Sukhumvit.
More than a beauty destination, it is a carefully crafted moment of calm in the middle of a busy day.
