Pleasure in the Jobs Puts the Perfection in the Work.

Aristotle

Work is no longer just a means of making a living. It is not simply about passing time until the day ends.

Today, work has become an integral part of how we live.

In an era where people have more freedom to choose their careers, pride and enjoyment in what we do naturally lead to better outcomes. Work is no longer driven by income alone—it becomes a daily source of motivation and purpose.

Project Background

Spore Bangkok is a digital media agency under CJ Worx, widely recognized for its impactful digital and viral marketing campaigns in Thailand. Their work is something many people encounter regularly—often without even realizing it.

When we were approached for this project, we were both excited and challenged. Spore already had a strong design identity from their previous office, created by a well-known design firm. Being entrusted with the next iteration was both an honor and a responsibility.

But challenges are exactly what drive us forward.

Spore

Concept: “The Underground Laboratory”

The name Spore refers to microscopic cells capable of spreading and multiplying rapidly. This idea became the foundation of our design concept.

We translated this into a spatial narrative—comparing Spore to viral content: small in origin, yet powerful in its ability to spread widely in a short time.

From this, the concept of “The Underground Laboratory” emerged.

The office is imagined as a hidden lab where a team secretly develops “viral content” before releasing it to the outside world.

Spatial Experience

The journey begins at the entrance, designed as a clean, futuristic laboratory gateway. Access feels controlled—almost cinematic—with digital elements reinforcing the idea of security and precision.

Stepping inside, visitors pass through a sleek white tunnel—minimal, reflective, and slightly disorienting—creating a transition from the outside world into something more concealed.

Emerging from the tunnel, the atmosphere shifts dramatically.

You enter a raw, experimental lab environment—a collaborative co-working space where teams brainstorm, discuss, and create. The space feels dynamic, slightly chaotic, and intentionally unconventional, reflecting the nature of viral content creation.

A flexible multi-purpose area supports group discussions and small seminars. One feature wall, designed as a world map in metal, allows teams to visualize the “spread” of their campaigns using magnetic markers—turning abstract digital reach into a tangible experience.

Meeting Spaces

The main meeting room takes inspiration from a command center, subtly referencing a starship bridge. The environment is brighter and more structured, supporting focused discussions and decision-making. A backlit wall evokes the atmosphere of a server room—suggesting that this is where ideas are processed and controlled.

Smaller meeting rooms are hidden behind the main workspace, designed as experimental medical rooms within the lab narrative. The furniture and lighting draw inspiration from surgical environments, creating an intense and immersive meeting experience.

Design Details & Materiality

Throughout the office, everyday objects are reinterpreted creatively. Old computer monitors are repurposed into lighting fixtures, reinforcing the experimental and resourceful nature of the lab.

Lighting plays a crucial role—layered and varied—to create depth and mystery without compromising usability.

Different zones are clearly defined through material contrasts, lighting cues, and spatial transitions, maintaining both functionality and storytelling.

Function Meets Concept

Beyond aesthetics, functionality was a key priority.

The client experienced issues in their previous office where lights were often left on, leading to unnecessary energy consumption. To address this, we designed a centralized control system located at the entrance

tunnel.

This system allows users to control lighting by zones—or turn off the entire office at once. Motion sensors within the tunnel ensure that lights automatically turn off after the last person leaves.

In the morning, the first arrival can reactivate the entire system from the same point—creating a seamless daily operation.

Restricted work areas are intentionally designed to feel compact and secure, reinforcing the idea of confidentiality. These zones are finished in clean white tones, with black-and-yellow markings subtly defining boundaries—echoing laboratory safety language.

The Spore Bangkok Office is more than a workplace—it is an environment that communicates the company’s identity and creative process.

By blending narrative-driven design with practical functionality, we aimed to create a space where employees not only work, but experience the essence of what they do every day.

And perhaps, within this underground laboratory, the next wave of viral ideas is already being created—ready to spread across the world.
