No.1 Sushi in Wanglang

The renovation of Ani Sushi may appear to be a small-scale project, but the spatial and structural limitations made it far more challenging than expected.
The original site consisted of a single narrow unit. The owner wanted to expand the usable area by opening and connecting the shop with the space at the rear of the property, allowing the restaurant to function more efficiently while also increasing the number of dine-in seats for customers.
The design approach focused on reorganizing the layout to create clearer zoning, improve circulation, and maximize functionality within the limited footprint — transforming a compact sushi shop into a more comfortable and practical dining experience.
The key challenge was finding a way to make the restaurant stand out among the many larger competitors surrounding the area.
To create a stronger visual identity, we designed the storefront with the lively and energetic atmosphere of Osaka’s street-side dining culture in mind. A large salmon graphic became the main visual attraction at the front of the shop, while a live grilled eel station was placed near the entrance to create movement, aroma, and a subtle layer of smoke that helped make the restaurant feel fresh, active, and inviting.
Inside, the design focused on creating a clean and efficient layout that maximized functionality within the limited space. The atmosphere reflects a modern Japanese restaurant aesthetic — simple, organized, and visually clean — while incorporating playful decorative details that add personality and character throughout the interior.
The backdrop panel behind the seating area was a custom graphic installation designed specifically for this project. We reimagined Wang Lang Market through a Japanese visual lens — illustrating the atmosphere and everyday life of Wang Lang itself, but with the character and energy of a Japanese street market.

Once the design was finalized, the construction phase began. One of the client’s biggest concerns was minimizing the shop’s downtime, as prolonged closure would directly impact business operations and revenue. Because of this, we approached the construction process with extremely detailed planning and careful coordination.
The project site was located within a busy market environment, which created several operational challenges. Construction hours were restricted due to noise limitations, the area remained crowded throughout the day, and extra precautions had to be taken to avoid disturbing neighboring shops.
After carefully organizing the workflow and construction schedule,
we successfully planned the entire renovation to be completed within just 20 day
The demolition phase began smoothly, and the first day of work went exactly according to plan.
After that, we proceeded with the complete installation of new building systems, followed by the construction of ceilings and wall panels to redefine the interior space.
At the same time, the custom-built furniture and decorative elements were produced off-site at the factory in parallel with the on-site construction process, helping the project move forward efficiently and stay within the tight timeline.
The final stage focused on styling, decorative detailing, and completing the finishing touches that brought the overall atmosphere and identity of the restaurant fully to life.
After three weeks of hard work and non-stop hustle, our store is finally complete!
