A Little Thai Rabbit in America

Rabbit Kitchen — Another overseas project proudly designed by The Collective Studio.
Following the completion of TENDER in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco, the owner expanded the brand with a new restaurant in San Mateo—giving rise to Rabbit Kitchen.
The central character of this project is, of course, the “rabbit.”
But not the animal itself.
Instead, the inspiration comes from the traditional Thai coconut grater stool, commonly known in Thailand as the “rabbit coconut grater” because of its distinctive rabbit-like shape. A familiar object deeply rooted in Thai culinary culture became the symbolic centerpiece of the restaurant’s identity—reimagined and introduced to an international audience through contemporary restaurant design.

The restaurant serves modern Asian-inspired dishes that reinterpret familiar flavors in a more playful and visually engaging way, following the concept of Asian Fusion Cuisine.
The interior design reflects this same approach—blending Thai cultural references with modern materials, warm lighting, and contemporary spatial composition to create an atmosphere that feels approachable, vibrant, and memorable.
Rather than presenting Thai culture in an overly traditional way, the project translates everyday cultural elements into a fresh and contemporary dining experience for a global audience.
Rabbit Kitchen may be a small restaurant, but for us, it represents another meaningful opportunity to bring Thai identity, storytelling, and creativity onto the international stage.
